What is Route Planner?

Route Planner is a unique tool that enables you to:

  • map out your travel plans around the world, in as much detail as you would like to use. (You can zoom in to a particular town or village, or just pick major cities).
  • create as many routes as you want to and save them in your profile area. (You can choose to make these plans private or you can choose to share them with other members).
  • match your travel plans to other members travel plans and then contact each other to share transport, find a travel partner, swap ideas/stories, get advice...the possibilities are endless!
  • just browse other peoples travel plans to get some ideas of places to visit, see pictures, videos & read stories/diaries about places you are thinking about visiting etc.

How to use Route Planner:

  • Firstly you should register as a member – this is free & you can enter as little or as much detail as you want in your profile.
  • Go to the Route Planner application in your profile area, click on Add. This will take you to the world map.
  • From the world map, simply hold down the mouse to drag the map to where you want to start your journey. Use the Zoom toolbar on the top left-hand corner if you need to zoom into the correct City or Town (see screenshots below).

  • Then, to start your Route Plan click on “Add Pin” in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Then hover over the place you want to start your journey, and click on it with the mouse. It gives you the option to write a small not about each step of your plan, if you want to. Then simply click on save and go onto the next step in your route. (See screenshot below).

  • Next, chose your next step in your route, (Madrid has been used in the example below), do the same as before to select the town you want and select save.

  • When you have finished entering all the places you want to add to this particular route plan Click on “Save Travel Plan”. This will take you to the final page, (in the screenshot below), where you can save the route, give it a title, enter a description, specify the dates the trip will cover (or has covered in the past), and finally you can decide whether to have this route available for all members to see or just for you to see (i.e. Public or Private).
